Solo!

Solo! It's the defining moment in a pilot's life. This section, inspired by the solo of the webmaster's son only a few days after his 16th birthday, is here for all to brag...

Please note that there is a related page for ratings (PPL, etc.)

November 29, 2005 - my first solo! Clear blue skies, trusty old rental C152, and me. Teresa Luther 11/29/2005 View
After walking this earth for 50 years my dream of flying above it had been realized! I was now able to call myself a pilot. Matt my instructor met me on the ramp and I think his smile was almost as big as mine. It had taken 19 hours to get to this point and there had been a lot of frustration on my part getting here. Matt stuck by me and gave me the confidence I needed. Thanks Matt!

I went on to pass my Phase 1 check and during my next solo flight the landing thing 'clicked'. Now it is time to finish this PPL thing. Date of solo, March 19, 2005.

This first solo means the most to me. This picture was taken on July 10th, 2003. My dad and I worked everyday for four months to get our Cessna 120 stripped, painted, redo the panel, make a new interior and headliner, and do several other small things. We were trying to get all of these things done before the Arlington Fly-in and Airshow. The plan was for me to fly the 120 and my dad fly a friends Stinson. I got my PPL the day before this picture. We left for Arligton about two hours after my first solo in the 120. Everything worked out just in the nick of time Rob Farland 1/14/2004 View

Congratulations Patrick! I wish I'd done my first solo when I was 16, instead of 40!! Just did mine in January of this year, 32 hours logged as of yesterday, flight test time soon! I brought my video camera with me and managed to just film the back of my head so here is a link to my second solo...not quite the same but what can you do :) Doug FM 3/29/2003 View
Well, my ex-wife absconded with the pictures of a grinning 16 year old on his birthday solo. But this certificate was the start of a long and happy flying experience. One reason that I'm sending it is that I liked the way the certificate looked (Old?). I know what you must feel soloing at your 16th birthday! May you have as much fun as I have had learning about flying since then! Michael L. Weller, Sr. 3/28/2003 View
This C-152 is a FBO trainer, well worn in the tradition of many such steeds. Yet on the day you solo, it's the prettiest plane on the planet. Mike Culver 3/27/2003 View
