N45658 Annual 2001 - Day 3

Day thee is over and things are basically on schedule. The panel is out, everything is opened up, and most parts/materials are in. I am stilll waiting on the oil pressure/temperature gauge and I think I am going to just get a new carb heat and cabin heat cables. I was able to get the tach cable apart once the panel top was out far enough to grab it. The instruments are cleaning up well and the mag switch is going to have to be painted. Dan I was going to polish the handle in your honor but it is made of a poor quality cast steel and has pits that are just too deep to polish out. Sorry about that I really was thinking of you and your truly refined sensibilities. Tomorrow I will order the new cables and throttle knob. Then I will begin prepping the panel to fit the cables and instruments. Things will slow down some now as it is also time for the tedious cleaning MY inspections and lubrication. With luck this weekend I will be ready for my A&P/IA to work on installing the new panel. Then we need to address items I had noted prior to the annual. Eventually it will all come together but I'll tell you what. I have never done this end of things before and it sure is ripped apart!

Problems

  • Tach cable stuck
Came free today with better angle to grab it
  • Broken trim crank
Our Angel has saved the day once again!
  • Can't find plug wires
Not only do I have the solution provided by Thor but he was kind enough to verify and provide a backup in case I couldn't get them around here.

This is the gapping gap where the panel used to be. This is starting to feel a little overwhelming.
The glare panel had vinyl glued over it that I had to remove to get at the rivets. The new piece will go in just before the windshield.

It's hard to go wrong with friends watching over you!
