N45658 Annual 2001 - Day 8

GENERAL
This has been a day and a half! We started at 8:00 AM and worked through until 3:00 PM. The new panel is riveted in, pitot line connected, tach cable connected, and the mag switch is connected. I have repaired the cabin heat and have it fully set up. Throttle is ready to roll. The static line has been cut off and not previously connected so I need to obtain a couple of fittings to connect it to the ASI and ALT. The primer is an issue. the primer hole is about 1" below the one on the old panel. I have a long barrel primer and it is hitting on a diagonal support that ties from the top of the firewall to the center of the panel strengthener. If anyone knows the length of a short barreled primer it would be good to know. Maybe it would fit in place. Tomorrow I get the items I need on order and I may take a day off. I am starting to feel pretty tired from burning the candle at both ends. Now things are in my hands and I know how to put it back together. Once I have the parts in hand I will start at the tail and simply work forward. Hopefully that will put me at the front with the oil pressure/temperature gauge late in the week. All in all, a very productive yet tiring day.

Sorry I forgot my little camera today. I will do better next time

INSPECTIONS
The inspections went well. I need to replace 6 pulleys. Specifically the rearmost rudder pulleys do not turn when the cable moves and all of the brake pulleys are in very poor condition.

The "flapper" in the air box has so much play in it I am surprised it actually seals when the carb heat is off. If anyone has run up on this let me know what the easiest solution is. I will be removing it and investigating if a bushing is in order or what.

We found some corrosion in the tail area that needs to get shot down with corrosion X or the like to stop it before it advances any.

Otherwise everything looks real good! I am pleased and feel justified in my estimation of the planes condition.
