N45658 Annual 2001 - Day 6

Day six is a mixed bag. I recieved all of my cables and got the panel assembled but I also found out that my oil pressure/temperature gauge won't be anywhere where I can see it before next Thursday. Bummer! My wife and I prepped, masked, and painted what little interior areas that needed painting tonight. We picked up the hanger and put everything away just to keep from hurting ourselves. Kind of a mid project do-over. I made a punch list of items I need to finish up tomorrow so I will be ready for my A&P/IA on Sunday. He has confirmed all AD's and compiled a list to verify them. The finish on the interior is not what I had hoped for but I really didn't intend to actually refinish the interior areas this time around. The original oil pressure/temperature gauge has one mounting ear extend off the bottom of the sub panel so I started machining an aluminum piece that will provide a secure extension to the sub-panel. Sunday night will be the interesting one. Then I will have a list from my mechanic of things he doesn't like and wants fixed. You can read that as all of the things I am too ignorant to realize are wrong with it. Tomorrow, wheel bearings, install induction hoses, finish bracket, oil change, trim crank, more cleaning vacuum tail cone (need my daughter for this), and another pulley by pulley check for anything I don't like.

AN ASIDE
This probably sounds crazy but I have never riveted before in my life and I am "terrified"! I understand the steps but have never actually done it. I can easilly take apart the rest of the plane and feel comfortable that I can put it together again. BUT I CAN'T RIVET! People, If you can arrainge to at least assist in your next annual DO IT. You will learn so much about your plane. I can already see where it will make me more aware while flying too. There are things that I want to see how they feel in flight. Things that I took for granted before this. It has also given me a confidence level and comfort for my choice of purchasing this Luscombe. Life IS GOOD!

Cleaner than when I found it but still got a ways to go for me.
Here's that broken crank staring at me. I have the replacement but I just haven't taken the time to replace it yet.

It's hard to go wrong with friends watching over you!
