N45658 Annual 2001 - Day 15

PROJECT FINISHED!! I have some cosmetic issues to take care of yet. One of the venturis was mounted over the top of a stripe prior to the last painting and then was just taped off during the painting. That means when I removed it I have a screwed up striped down the side of the plane. I will need to replace the two rudder pulleys when they come in. Other than those items we are complete. Today has been the final chapter of getting to the end of the hardware. I have replaced much of it especially as I have gotten to the end of the project.

I have learned an awful lot about my plane as I have done this work. The engineering simplicity is a work of art. I can't say things are built any better today. Only different.

I have learned, again, the wealth of information possessed by the members of the Luscombe message list.

I have found the foundation and especially my "Parts Angel" Donna Losey to have been unbelievably responsive and helpful in keeping me in various parts and pieces.

The only real unexpected issue we encountered was a different positioning of the primer hole in the panel. The primer hole was one inch lower in the new panel which caused interference with the diagonal support. I replaced the primer with a short barrel one and the problem was resolved. Of course there were holes that were stripped and oversized but those issues are to be expected.

I do not have the total dollar amounts gathered together yet but it looks like the annual portion will be under $500.00. The new panel and instruments was considerably more. Between the panel, new instruments, painting supplies, fittings, cables, hardware, and the like I came to around $2,000.00 on it.
